What does a PSA blood test measure?
- The PSA test measures the blood level of PSA (Prostate Specific Antigen) and is the blood test used primarily to screen for prostate cancer.
- The test measures the amount of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) in blood.
- PSA is a protein produced by both cancerous and noncancerous tissue in the prostate, a small gland that sits below a man's bladder and produced the seminal fluid.
- While PSA levels are elevated in prostate cancer, it is also elevated in a range of other conditions of the prostate and is therefore not a specific cancer marker, more an indicator of prostate "irritation" or Inflammation.
- Therefore while all causes of an elevated PSA should be investigated, not all will be the result of a tumour or cancer.
- The ALLTEST PSA indicates a positive result if blood levels reach or exceed 3ng/ml.

Can the kit be reused?
No, the home test kit cannot be reused. It is designed for single use only to ensure accuracy, hygiene, and reliability of the results. Each kit includes all the components needed for one test.
After completing the test, all used components should be safely disposed of, following the instructions provided in the kit. If you need to repeat the test again in the future, you’ll need to purchase a new test kit.
Is the test painful?
No, the home test is not painful. The test involves a simple finger-prick to collect a small blood sample, similar to what is done for a blood glucose test, so you do need to be comfortable with pricking your finger to obtain the blood samples.
You use a sterile lancet to make a tiny puncture on your fingertip. Most people describe the sensation as a quick, mild pinch or prick that only lasts a moment. The lancet is designed to minimise discomfort.
If you are concerned about the process, you can warm your hands before the test to improve blood flow and reduce any discomfort further.
How long does it take to get results?
Results are usually available within minutes, making these test kits suitable for quick assessments.
What are lancets and how do you to use them?
A lancet is a small, sharp needle primarily used to prick the skin and draw blood, playing a crucial role in diabetes management by facilitating blood glucose monitoring.
Beyond diabetes care, lancets are also utilised for other medical purposes, such as collecting blood samples for various tests including home cholesterol tests, haemoglobin tests, uric acid tests and PSA tests. These devices are designed for single use.
