How far back will a mouth swab drug test detect drug use?
Mouth swab drug test kits measure the level of the drug or its metabolites in oral fluid ie saliva and will detect most drugs for no more than 48 hours since last use, and often in many cases for considerably less time. For most drugs, the detection period in saliva will be somewhere between 5-48 hours. The detection time for drugs on a saliva drug test kit will vary from drug to drug and from person to person. Saliva drug test kit detection times make them ideal for detecting recent drug use.
Why is the detection time for drugs on an oral fluid drug test less than in urine?
A mouth swab drug test can detect drugs in the saliva for a relatively short period of time compared to urine or hair, typically ranging from a few hours up to 2-3 days. This is because drugs are quickly metabolized and eliminated from the body through the saliva. However, the detection window can vary depending on several factors, such as the type of drug used, the frequency of use, the dosage, and the individual's metabolism.
It's important to note that while a mouth swab drug test is less invasive and easier to administer compared to other drug tests, it may not be as accurate or reliable as other methods, such as urine or hair tests as the detection time is so much shorter.
Cannabis saliva detection times
The way Cannabis is detected on a saliva drug test is different from the way Cannabis is detected in urine. On a mouth swab oral drug test, the test kit is looking for the parent drug in the oral fluid, and because of this the Cannabis saliva detection time is very short, and always less than 12 hours. The result of this short detection time for Cannabis in a saliva drug test means that someone can often pass a mouth swab drug test, even if they smoked Cannabis the night before, whereas they would be likely to fail a urine drug test for Cannabis.
